I'm Kevin Meston, a recent graduate with a mind for business.

About

Hi, I’m Kevin Meston. I’m in my early twenties and I grew up in Washington State, where I attended Sammamish High School. While in high school, I was able to graduate two years early with an A.A.S. degree from Bellevue Community College. Afterwards, I was accepted into Chapman University’s Argyros School of Business and Economics and moved to California. In 2011, I graduated with a B.S. in Business Administration and am currently living in Orange, California. I created this website in order to give people a quick idea of who I am and what my passions are.

I’ve laid out some hobbies and interests, as well as business focuses and have some cool content to click through. Check out the site to see what I’m currently working on!

Backpacking and Conservation

Backpacking has been a passion of mine for some years now. I am originally from the Northwest, and any time I can get out on the trail to experience a cool mountain breeze is an accomplishment in my mind. For five summers between the ages of 12 and 17, I participated in a large restoration project called Mountains to Sound that focused on deconstruction of logging roads and repair of clear-cut forests.

Gear

When it comes to backpacking I love being outside, but I can also be a complete gear nut at times. I love getting into the specifics of my gear, and even counting ounces. Sometimes I even keep spreadsheets to outline total bag weight for long trips into the wilderness. I could talk to you for hours about the different types of steel used in outdoor knives, or the differences between down and synthetic sleeping bags. It’s always fun to keep up with new backpacking ideas.

New Zealand

In my junior year at Chapman University, I had the opportunity to study abroad in New Zealand for six months. While I was there I learned a lot about myself and met some really great people. In New Zealand, I had a chance to get some real “outdoor” experience and kept a blog about it.

Hobbies

Staying Active

In addition to hiking and backpacking, I also enjoy biking, especially those long rides to Huntington Beach or up the local Santa Ana River trail.

Running and swimming have become a large part of my life as well, and I’ve recently begun entering into local 5K running competitions to keep things interesting. Something just clicks when you’re almost to the finish line and it’s as if your body generates quadruple the energy. Running keeps you healthy physically and mentally, and it’s been fun joining these competitions. I plan to enter into a triathlon in the near future!

Computers

Performance

I grew up playing computer games and I always tried to stay on top of the newest technology by piecing together my own computer systems. Computer hardware has always been intriguing to me because of the sheer power that can be generated from a seemingly small device. I have since grown out of computer games, but I still hold the same passion for the technology that I had as a kid. New advances in the industry consistently amaze me.

Hardware

I enjoy building computers and servers from the ground up and I love to talk about the performance differences between the individual parts (ex. the processing speed of an Intel Sandy Bridge i7 vs. a 6-core AMD). I have also put together a few parts packages for friends over the years and have always been able to troubleshoot computer problems for anyone in need.

Customer Service

I always try to stay tuned in to customer awareness. In our increasingly networked society, we have lost much of the direct communication between companies and consumers. But this loss creates an opportunity to differentiate ourselves in the workplace by building those quality relationships and facilitating meaningful conversations with our clients. By hiring professionals who take these ideas to heart, companies can strengthen their overall brand value. I take pride in my ability to apply these concepts whenever possible.

Project Management

Any time you’re dealing with a project that has several elements, it pays to stay organized. I like to stay organized through various email plug-ins, mobile phone alerts, online calendars and online contact notes. This way, I can always be on top of the day’s events no matter where I am, stay current on upcoming appointments, and keep track of important clients and contacts without relying completely on memory.

Lately

I currently hold a position at Galleher Corporation as Marketing Coordinator in Santa Fe Springs, CA. One of the main projects I have had the opportunity to head up has been the complete overhaul of www.Galleher.com. Other activities have included creating primary product catalogs as well as interactive client / product sample solutions. I’m very happy at Galleher and the position has allowed me to build new ideas for projects, formulate plans to execute them, and follow through while taking ownership in the results.

I look forward to growing with Galleher and seeing where the future can take me.

In the meantime, I will continue to create websites through referrals in order to help pay off student loans as well as offer consulting for friends and small businesses. I hope to keep meeting new and exciting people along the way. Hopefully this snapshot of me has given you a little idea of who I am. If you have any questions or comments, I would love to hear from you.
