About
Hi, I’m Kevin Meston, a digital marketing professional. My core competencies include marketing to a diverse audience of customers through a digital landscape, in addition to managing people and projects to improve efficiency and flow of information.
I grew up in Washington State before moving to California to attend Chapman University’s Argyros School of Business and Economics. In 2011, I graduated with a B.S. in Business Administration and am now living and working in Orange County. I’ve gained substantial experience in marketing, business management, and technology application, and continue to use this passion to learn and grow as an individual. This website was created in order to give others a quick idea of who I am and what my passions are. Check out the rest to see what I’m working on!
Competencies
Marketing Strategy
Marketing is not just about conveying a good message. It is also about perfecting the flow of information. How can we improve our message, and get it to the target audience in the most efficient way possible? I believe that good marketing strategy is best executed when you are working towards a larger overall goal. My marketing strategy involves writing out long-term goals, so that all the smaller, day-to-day projects can stay focused toward meeting those goals.
Vendor Relationship Management
Maintaining a positive, mutually beneficial relationship with vendors is essential. If I can make a vendor feel like a “partner” throughout the process, then I am most likely to see more positive results. This is especially key with time sensitive projects. I have a knack for getting things done, and a large part of this success comes from the many lasting, positive relationships that I maintain with the people I work with.
Efficiency & Cost Savings
Almost every decision I make is based around data and return on investment analysis. Nobody likes to waste money. With the wealth of information available today, we should be able to make more calculated marketing decisions. The worst thing you can do is take a “spaghetti” approach. The spaghetti approach is when you try things for the heck of it, or in other words, throw spaghetti at a wall in hopes that some of it sticks.

Dig In Web Design
Since 2011, I have operated a web design company as a weekend hobby. The goal of Dig In Web Design is to provide cutting-edge, clean, digital strategies for small and medium size businesses. I’ve greatly enjoyed my time and work since starting the company, and I have gained valuable perspective on business as well as an opportunity to grow and test new and exciting creative platforms. The projects have ranged from full-fledged corporate online entities and e-commerce solutions to documentaries, small organizations, and personal portfolios. Everything is developed using a content management system called WordPress. If you’re interested in seeing some of the projects, please check out my portfolio here.
Self Education
Constant and rapid change is inevitable in the field of marketing, especially in the digital realm. Continuously educating myself on the latest industry solutions has helped me to be a more successful marketer, which I think should be a part of every marketer’s priorities.
To stay on top of the latest trends, I follow technology blogs like CNET, relevant Twitter and Google + feeds from companies like Adobe or Econsultancy, and keep up on articles related to digital marketing and technology trends. In my experience, it is more productive to incorporate new, sensible ideas into marketing strategies than to wait and react to what other companies are doing.
Outdoors
Backpacking and Conservation
Backpacking has been a passion of mine for some years now. As a native to the Northwest, any time I can get out on the trail to experience a cool mountain breeze is an accomplishment. For five summers between ages 12 and 17, I participated in a large restoration project called Mountains to Sound, which focused on deconstruction of logging roads and repair of clear-cut forests.
New Zealand
In my junior year at Chapman University, I had the opportunity to study abroad in New Zealand for six months. While I was there, I learned a lot about myself and met some really great people. In New Zealand, I had a chance to get some real “outdoor” experience and kept a blog about it.
Lately
Currently, I hold the position of Digital Marketing Specialist at Smile Brands, Inc. During the course of my employment I have been able to work on many projects. Some include the deployment of extensive pay per click (PPC) campaigns, robust on-going search engine optimization (SEO), return on investment (ROI) analysis, detailed website analytic reporting, targeted e-mail campaigns, and aiding in the design of a complete website overhaul. I have also been fortunate enough to collaborate and help manage several California-based agencies to assist in deploying creative and digital strategy for the company.
I look forward to growing and seeing where the future can take me.
Meanwhile, I continue to operate Dig In Web Design on weekends while helping friends and colleagues with consulting, in between trips to the outdoors. Hopefully this snapshot has given you a little idea of who I am. If you have any questions or comments, I would love to hear from you. I hope to keep meeting new and exciting people along the way!
